DRY BRUSHING

Dry brushing might sound like a trendy new health hack, but it’s actually been around for thousands of years. Cultures like the Greeks, Japanese, and even Native American tribes used forms of dry brushing to support skin health, circulation, and overall wellness. And today, it's still one of the easiest, most affordable ways to support your body’s natural detox pathways—right from your bathroom.

So, What is Dry Brushing?

It’s exactly what it sounds like: brushing your skin (dry—before a shower) with a natural-bristle brush. You start at your feet and work your way up, brushing toward your heart. It’s simple, takes five minutes or less, and when done consistently, it can make a big impact on how you feel.

Why I Use Dry Brushing in My Routine

Dry brushing is more than just skin-deep. Here’s what I love about it—and what my clients often experience:

1. It Gently Exfoliates

Your skin is constantly shedding, and dry brushing helps slough off that top layer of dead skin. This reveals smoother, brighter skin underneath and helps your body eliminate toxins more efficiently. Over time, it can also help reduce ingrown hairs and improve skin texture.

2. It Boosts Circulation

Brushing increases blood flow to the surface of your skin. You’ll often notice a warm, tingling sensation afterward—that’s your blood moving, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your cells. Good circulation supports everything from skin health to energy.

3. It Energizes Your Morning

Dry brushing first thing in the morning is a natural pick-me-up. It stimulates your nervous system and gets you feeling more alert—without needing to grab another cup of coffee.

4. It Supports Your Lymphatic System

Your lymphatic system is one of your body’s main detox engines—and it doesn’t have a pump like your heart. It relies on movement and pressure. Since many lymph vessels are right under the skin, dry brushing helps stimulate them, supporting drainage and detox.

5. You Can Add Essential Oils for Extra Benefits

This is one of my favorite ways to upgrade the practice. After dry brushing and before showering, I apply a few drops of a detox-supporting essential oil (like doTERRA Grapefruit, MetaPWR, or Zendocrine blend) mixed with a carrier oil to my skin. This helps wake up the body, support lymph flow, and makes your post-shower skin feel incredible.

You can also drop a few essential oils directly into your palm and inhale them before you start brushing—Peppermint or Lemongrass are great for an energizing boost.

How to Get Started

You’ll need a natural bristle brush—look for ones made from plant fibers like jute, cactus, or sisal. A long-handled brush can help you reach your back, while a smaller, softer brush is perfect if you want to try facial dry brushing.

Step-by-Step Dry Brushing Routine

  • Start with dry skin before your shower.
  • Begin at your feet and use long strokes upward toward your heart.
  • Move to your legs, buttocks, and lower back.
  • Brush from your hands to your shoulders.
  • Gently brush your stomach and chest (lighter pressure here).
  • If dry brushing your face, switch to a smaller, softer brush.
  • After brushing, take a shower to rinse off dead skin.
  • After your shower, apply a carrier oil infused with essential oils for skin nourishment and detox support.

A Few Quick Tips

  • Brush in the morning
—it’s invigorating and sets the tone for the day.
  • Use light pressure—this isn’t meant to scrape your skin.
  • Stay consistent—2–4 times a week is great to start.
  • Avoid broken, sunburned, or irritated skin.
